Emphasizes the healing benefits of music therapy with the elderly population, particularly with the dementia patient. The use of “personalized music” will be discussed in terms of tapping into long-term memory and altering negative behaviors.
Objectives:
- Define Music Therapy
- Describe the therapeutic outcomes of using Music Therapy with the elderly and specifically those with dementia
- Strategize how to incorporate music throughout each stage of Alzheimer’s Disease
- Recognize the benefits of a personalized music program in and outside of long-term care facilities
